What is GHRP-2?

GHRP-2 (pralmorelin) is a six-amino-acid synthetic peptide that acts on the ghrelin receptor and makes the pituitary release growth hormone. It came out of the growth hormone releasing peptide program started by Cyril Bowers at Tulane University.

Compared with GHRP-6 it releases more GH for the same amount and has a smaller effect on appetite, though it still raises cortisol and prolactin a little. In Japan it’s approved as a diagnostic agent for testing GH deficiency.

GHRP-2 mechanism of action

GHRP-2 binds GHS-R1a, the receptor that ghrelin uses. In the pituitary that triggers GH release, and in the hypothalamus it adds to the GHRH signal and damps somatostatin, the hormone that holds GH back.

Because GHRP-2 and GHRH push on two different receptors, labs often combine them. The result is a GH pulse larger than the sum of each one on its own, which is the idea behind our CJC-1295 and GHRP-2 blend.

Published GHRP-2 studies

Bowers and colleagues published a series of human studies in the 1990s showing that GHRP-2 raised GH in a dose-related way, and that giving it with GHRH produced a much bigger GH pulse than either one alone.

Later work used it to test pituitary GH reserve and looked at its effects on appetite and food intake, which are milder than with GHRP-6.

GHRP-2 compared with similar compounds

GHRP-2 5mg is easier to place once you see it next to the compounds it’s usually compared with. GHRP-2 is the strongest GH releaser of the original GHRPs, with a milder appetite effect than GHRP-6. The others:

• GHRP-6 releases GH and strongly raises appetite, the classic tool for feeding research
• Hexarelin is a very potent GHRP that also binds CD36 on heart cells
• Ipamorelin is the most selective ghrelin-receptor peptide, with little effect on cortisol or prolactin

Reconstituting GHRP-2 5mg

The volume of liquid you add sets the concentration. For a vial holding 5mg:

• 1mL of water gives 5mg/mL
• 2mL of water gives 2.5mg/mL
• 3mL of water gives 1.67mg/mL

Go with whichever number is easiest to work with in your protocol, and label the vial with the concentration and the date you mixed it.

Use sterile bacteriostatic water. Warm the sealed vial to room temperature first so no condensation gets in, add the water slowly along the glass wall, and swirl gently until it’s clear. Never shake it.

GHRP-2 5mg storage and shelf life

Freeze-dried GHRP-2 5mg is stable at room temperature for shipping, but for anything longer keep it in a freezer at -20°C, away from light. Once mixed, keep it in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and use it within about four weeks.
