Description
MGF 2mg from Blue Sky Peptide is 2mg of MGF in a sealed glass vial. MGF is an IGF-1 splice variant peptide. This batch tested at 99.09% purity. It’s for in-vitro and lab research only.
MGF at a glance
Mechano growth factor is a version of IGF-1 that muscle makes after mechanical load or damage. It comes from alternative splicing of the IGF-1 gene and is called IGF-1Ec in humans. The research peptide is a synthetic copy of its unique E-domain tail, 24 amino acids long.
Geoffrey Goldspink’s group at the Royal Free Hospital in London described it in the 1990s and gave it the name.
How MGF works
When muscle is stretched or damaged, the IGF-1 gene is spliced differently and makes MGF first, before the main IGF-1 form. The idea is that MGF’s E-domain wakes up satellite cells, the muscle stem cells that repair fibers.
The synthetic E-peptide has no IGF-1 receptor binding domain, so any effect it has is meant to come through a different, still unidentified route. Free MGF peptide also breaks down within minutes, which is why a pegylated version exists.

What the research says about MGF
Yang and Goldspink reported in FEBS Letters in 2002 that the MGF E-peptide made muscle satellite cells divide more, separately from the main IGF-1 receptor.
Later studies looked at it in heart and nerve injury models. Some groups couldn’t reproduce every result, so the field still argues about how much of it acts on its own. All of the work is in cells and animals.
The primary literature is on PubMed. Here’s a search for MGF studies to start from.
How MGF compares
MGF 2mg is easier to place once you see it next to the compounds it’s usually compared with. MGF is the E-domain peptide from the muscle-specific IGF-1 splice variant. The others:
- IGF-1 LR3 is an 83-amino-acid IGF-1 analog that avoids binding proteins and lasts for hours
- IGF-1 DES is IGF-1 missing three residues, potent locally but cleared faster than IGF-1 LR3
- PEG-MGF is MGF with a PEG chain added so it lasts much longer
These sit downstream of growth hormone, on the IGF-1 side of the axis. They differ in how they avoid binding proteins, how long they last and which receptor they rely on. See them all on our growth hormone peptides page.
Lab-tested MGF 2mg
Purity for this batch of MGF 2mg came back at 99.09% by HPLC and mass spectrometry. That’s the figure for the batch currently in stock.
Note the batch number on the label when the vial arrives. That’s what the certificate of analysis is filed under, and we’ll send you a copy on request.
Keep the batch number with your records. It’s the quickest way to match a vial to its paperwork later.
Reconstituting MGF 2mg
Here’s the math for 2mg of peptide:
- 1mL of water gives 2mg/mL
- 2mL of water gives 1mg/mL
Choose the volume that suits your measurements. Mark the vial with the concentration and date so nobody has to guess later.
Use sterile bacteriostatic water. Warm the sealed vial to room temperature first so no condensation gets in, add the water slowly along the glass wall, and swirl gently until it’s clear. Never shake it.
How to store MGF 2mg
The dry powder keeps best cold. A freezer at -20°C is ideal for long-term storage, and a fridge works for a few weeks. After reconstitution, store it in the fridge and finish it within roughly four weeks.
A 10-slot vial case keeps open and sealed vials upright and apart, which makes the fridge shelf a lot easier to manage. For transport, the Blue Sky hard storage box is the sturdier option.
