Description
Our SS-31 10mg vial holds 10mg of lyophilized SS-31, a mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide. This batch tested at 99.81% purity. It’s intended for lab research only.
What is SS-31?
SS-31, also called elamipretide, is a four-amino-acid peptide: D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2. It alternates positive charges with aromatic rings, a design that lets it slip through cell membranes and collect in mitochondria.
Once there, it binds cardiolipin, a fat that’s found almost only in the inner mitochondrial membrane and that holds the energy-making machinery in place.
SS-31 mechanism of action
Cardiolipin holds together the protein complexes that make ATP in mitochondria. When it’s oxidized, those complexes work less well and leak more free radicals.
SS-31 binds cardiolipin and protects it, which in lab studies kept the electron transport chain working more efficiently and cut oxidative damage. It doesn’t depend on the membrane voltage to get into mitochondria, which sets it apart from other targeted antioxidants.

What the research says about SS-31
Hazel Szeto and Peter Schiller designed it in the early 2000s; SS stands for Szeto-Schiller. Stealth BioTherapeutics took it into clinical trials for mitochondrial diseases, including primary mitochondrial myopathy and Barth syndrome.
It’s one of the few mitochondria-targeted peptides with real human trial data. This vial is research material, not the clinical product.

SS-31 10mg vs related compounds
SS-31 10mg is easier to place once you see it next to the compounds it’s usually compared with. SS-31 targets cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane. The others:
- Epithalon is the tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, studied for telomerase activity
- NAD+ is the coenzyme behind cell energy and sirtuin activity, whose levels fall with age
- Glutathione is the cell’s main antioxidant tripeptide
- MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide coded in mitochondrial DNA, studied for glucose use in muscle
- GHK-Cu is the copper-binding tripeptide studied for collagen and skin repair
Aging research splits into a few processes, and each of these compounds targets one: telomeres, cell energy, mitochondria, oxidative stress or tissue repair. See them all on our anti-aging peptides page.
SS-31 10mg quality and batch records
Purity for this batch of SS-31 10mg came back at 99.81% by HPLC and mass spectrometry. That’s the figure for the batch currently in stock.
The label on each vial shows the compound, the strength and the batch. Ask us for the certificate of analysis for your batch and we’ll email it over.
Write the batch number in your lab notes when you open a new vial. If you ever need to compare results between orders, that’s the detail you’ll want.
SS-31 10mg reconstitution and concentration
Here’s the math for 10mg of peptide:
- 1mL of water gives 10mg/mL
- 2mL of water gives 5mg/mL
- 3mL of water gives 3.33mg/mL
Pick the volume that keeps your own calculations simple, then write the concentration and the mixing date on the label.
Bacteriostatic water is the usual choice. Add it slowly so it runs down the side of the vial, then swirl or roll until everything dissolves. Shaking can shear peptide chains. Skip it.
SS-31 10mg storage and shelf life
The dry powder keeps best cold. A freezer at -20°C is ideal for long-term storage, and a fridge works for a few weeks. After reconstitution, store it in the fridge and finish it within roughly four weeks.
Vials are small and easy to knock over or misplace. Our vial storage case and hard storage box each hold ten, so a whole study’s worth stays together.

SS-31 10mg questions
How much is in the SS-31 10mg vial?
10mg of freeze-dried powder. The amount is printed on the label.
Is there a COA for SS-31 10mg?
Yes. Each batch has a certificate of analysis filed under the batch number on the label. Email us that number and we’ll send it.
What do I mix SS-31 10mg with?
Sterile bacteriostatic water is the usual choice. The reconstitution section above shows the concentration for each volume.
How should I store it?
Sealed vials keep at room temperature in transit. For storage, use the freezer long term or the fridge for a few weeks. Once mixed, refrigerate and use within about 28 days.
Can SS-31 be used in people or animals?
No. It’s sold for laboratory research only and isn’t approved for human or veterinary use.
