Description
Clomiphene Citrate liquid is Clomiphene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), supplied as a 30mL liquid at 40mg/mL (1,200mg per bottle). This batch tested at 99.34% purity. It’s sold for laboratory research only.
What is Clomiphene?
Clomiphene citrate is a SERM approved in the US in 1967 for inducing ovulation, best known as Clomid. It’s a mix of two isomers: enclomiphene, which blocks the estrogen receptor, and zuclomiphene, which acts more like a weak estrogen and lingers for weeks.
It’s a triphenylethylene, from the same chemical family as tamoxifen.
How Clomiphene acts in the lab
Clomiphene blocks estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus. The brain reads that as low estrogen and releases more GnRH, so the pituitary puts out more LH and FSH.
In women the extra FSH drives follicle growth and ovulation. In men the extra LH drives the testes to make more testosterone. The two isomers clear at very different speeds, with zuclomiphene building up over time.

Published Clomiphene studies
Greenblatt and colleagues first reported ovulation induction with clomiphene in JAMA in 1961, and it became the first-line fertility drug for decades.
It’s also studied in men with low testosterone caused by low LH. Small trials report higher LH, FSH and testosterone, which led to the separate development of enclomiphene alone.

Clomiphene compared with similar compounds
Here’s how Clomiphene Citrate liquid fits among related compounds. Clomiphene blocks estrogen feedback in the brain to raise LH and FSH. By comparison:
- Anastrozole is a reversible nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitor
- Letrozole is the most potent of the reversible aromatase inhibitors, also used in fertility research
- Exemestane is a steroidal inhibitor that disables aromatase permanently
- Tamoxifen blocks estrogen in breast tissue but acts like it in bone and the uterus
- Raloxifene acts like estrogen in bone and blocks it in breast and uterine tissue
The first three stop estrogen from being made. The SERMs leave estrogen levels alone and change how the estrogen receptor responds in each tissue. See them all on our SERMs and aromatase inhibitors page.
Measuring Clomiphene Citrate liquid
The concentration is 40mg/mL, so the math is simple: every 1mL holds 40mg, and every 0.1mL holds 4mg. The whole 30mL bottle holds 1,200mg.
The dropper in the cap is fine for transferring liquid, but it isn’t marked finely enough for accurate measuring. For that, use a graduated 1mL measuring dropper, which reads in 0.1mL steps and costs $1.99.
Storing Clomiphene Citrate liquid
Store the bottle at room temperature, away from heat and light, with the cap screwed on firmly. There’s no need to refrigerate it.
Clomiphene Citrate liquid purity and testing
The current batch of Clomiphene Citrate liquid tested at 99.34% purity by mass spectrometry and UV (HPLC) analysis. That figure comes from the batch report, not a marketing estimate, and it’s the reason we list the exact number instead of rounding up.
Note the batch number on the label when the bottle arrives. That’s what the certificate of analysis is filed under, and we’ll send you a copy on request.
Write the batch number in your lab notes when you open a new bottle. If you ever need to compare results between orders, that’s the detail you’ll want.
